100 ELECTION SYMBOLS AVAILABLE FOR ALLOCATION TO THE INDEPENDENT CANDIDATES.

Islamabad, the 10^th December, 2007.— The Spokesman of the Election Commission of Pakistan has stated that all the District Returning Officers and the Returning Officers for National and Provincial Assemblies constituencies have been informed that 47 Election Symbols have been allocated to the Political Parties by the Election Commission in its Meeting held on 09-12-2007 and the list thereof has been dispatched to them from the Election Commission of Pakistan Secretariat, Islamabad. The names of the Political Parties and the Election Symbols allotted to them are as under:

2. The above mentioned Election symbols are to be allotted by the Returning Officers to the contesting candidates, nominated by the Political Parties concerned, after satisfying themselves about the nomination of the candidates by the concerned parties. The names of the contesting candidates and the symbols allocated to them are to be mentioned in the list of contesting candidates (Form-V) to be prepared by the Returning Officers concerned. The Returning Officers have been informed that the symbols allotted to the Political Parties should in no case be given to the independent candidates. The Political Parties and the independent candidates, are advised in their own interest to submit their party certificates or the preferences of symbols (In case of independent candidates) to the Returning Officers concerned, on or before 15-12-2007 which is the last date for withdrawal of candidature. In case of independent candidates, the Returning Officers will allot the election symbols on merits and their decisions will be considered as final.

3. The remaining 100 Election Symbols are to be allotted by the Returning Officers to the independent contesting candidates who have not been nominated by the Political Parties. The Returning Officers have further been advised that the symbols out side the Chart of Symbols appearing under Sub-Rule (1) of Rule 9 of the Representation of the People (Conduct of Elections) Rules, 1977 should not be allotted to any contesting candidate. The list of 100 remaining Election Symbols, which can be allotted to the independent candidates, is as under:
